‘Rest as an Act of Rebellion’ Hut 78 group show for Open Art Folkestone, September 2024

Having completed a course in projection mapping earlier in 2024, I created this installation for a small group exhibition in a beach hut shared with artist friends.  The work explores affirmatively choosing rest, against the status quo of perpetual availability for work, life and social contracts.  It is assembled using responses people shared with me, of how and where they go to relax.  I projection mapped animation to various physical props with MadMapper e.g. beach towel, kettle and stove, an easy chair.  Part of the experience was that it took place in this specific setting, one used as an escape from the daily grind.  The audience could sit in a comfy chair, from which to absorb the film and surroundings, soundtracked by the waves outside.
